The work in Banda Aceh centers on the children, providing preparation for school entrance tests and then the books and uniforms each entrant needs to continue his or her education. Additionally, work within the villages helps shape a future outside the brick factories so many labor in. Families and the community as a whole help identify the needs and contribute time and energy to making the efforts successful.

KINDERGARTEN SUPPORT PROGRAM – FROM BRICK FACTORY TO SCHOOL

We were able to establish our Kindergarten Support Program. Many young children do not attend kindergarten for several reasons:

  • as the nearest one is a couple of villages away

  • the parents cannot afford the clothes

  • the children have to look after their younger siblings

Our program is offering an alternative for those who do not attend and extra education for those who do attend the local Kindergarten. It also allows those children looking after their younger siblings to bring them along and a crèche has been established for them to learn through play.

PRIMARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT PROGRAM - WE HAVE DREAMS

The Primary and Secondary School Support Program is seeing more and more children attending from villages further and further away. At present we have 227 children registered with us from 7 different villages. The results of our lessons are being reflected in the dramatic increase of these children‟s grades in their formal schools. Continuing our close relationship with the local schools we are able to target our efforts to gain maximum impact and progress for the children.
